Prison inmate hangs himself at Pima Animal Care Center
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Pima Animal Care Center closed Wednesday while authorities investigated the apparent suicide of a Department of Corrections Inmate at the shelter.
Officials with Pima County tell KGUN9 the inmate was found hanging at the shelter, located at 4000 N. Silverbell.
Officials with the Department of Corrections confirm the inmate was 48-year-old Patrick Hoppes, who was serving nine years and three months out of Maricopa County for trafficking in stolen property.
The Department of Corrections is launching an internal investigation into this incident. Tucson Police are not investigating, but say his death was not criminal in nature.
He came into custody on May 11, 2009 and was housed at ASPC-Tucson.
