The Tucson branch of the Red Cross held a "shelter rodeo" Saturday, where partner groups could prepare for disasters like wildfires and monsoons.
Organizations could learn how to get ready ahead of disasters. The learned about three categories of preparedness: shelter management (how to run an efficient shelter), logistical training (who will bring what supplies) and health (how to provide care).
"The Red Cross is ready," said Red Cross Board Member Doug Jones. "We have a store of cots, of blankets, of different logistical supplies; we could open a shelter in a very short period of time, either if it's in Sierra Vista or if it's in Tucson itself, we're set to go."
More than 100 volunteers were on hand today to help the organizations get ready for when disaster strikes in our area, but many also prepare to be sent out to help in different states.
