Pinal County employees to get 2.5 percent raise

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (AP) - Officials have approved the first pay raise for Pinal County employees in nearly six years.

The Casa Grande Dispatch reports that the 2.5 percent salary increase that was approved in a 4-1 vote by the county's Board of Supervisors is effective in April.

Supervisor Anthony Smith was the only official to oppose the raise and says he supported the increase, but only if it was performance-based.

Smith says employee pay should be based on performance and shouldn't be a matter of just showing up for work.

While the board hasn't approved a salary increase in nearly six years, county officials in December 2012 approved a one-time salary bonus payment of 2.5 percent of each employee's annual salary for all full-time employees and a $100 bonus check for part-time staff.
