Pedestrian killed after car hits him Saturday night
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Police have identified the man who was hit and killed Saturday night after walking across Grant Road.
Sgt. Chris Widmer with Tucson Police says the man was 47-year-old Gilbert Marrieta.
Widmer tells KGUN9 that the man was hit while crossing Grant Road near Avenida El Capitan diagonally. A Toyota Tacoma hit the man, and he died after arriving at the hospital.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
Traffic detectives determined that the Tacoma was traveling eastbound on Grant in the inside lane. The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing.
Detectives say the Tacoma was traveling at about the posted speed limit. No word yet on if the driver will be cited.
Police are withholding the name of the victim until next of kin can be notified.
