TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - With all of the holiday home cooking, Day-After-Thanksgiving Grease Collection Event has a way for you to clean up in a bio-friendly way.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, at four locations in Tucson and one in Sahuarita.

New this year, a Tucson Fire Department crew will assist with a grease pour at O'Reilly Chevrolet and unwrapped toy drops, for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots, will be posted at the O'Reilly location and the City of Tucson Water Plant #2 location.
"Bring the kids, bring a toy and bring your grease," said Tucson Clean Cities Manager Colleen Crowninshield

The event, hosted by the Pima Association of Governments' Clean Cities program, Pima County Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department, Grecycle and EDG Fuels, encourages the use of alternate fuels for vehicles.

Leftover turkey grease and other kitchen grease can be turned into biodiesel, a cleaner burning fuel than petroleum.

Recycling not only benefits the environment it may prevent some drain repair expenses, said Laura Hagen Fairbanks with the Regional Wastewater Reclamation Department.

To date, more than 21,600 pounds of grease has been recycled since the first collection 2005.
