TUCSON(KGUN9-TV) - Last September, a homeowner's wildlife camera caught a Tucson couple burglarizing his home. Wednesday, exactly one year later, a judge sentenced 28-year-old Adam Baca to 2.5 years in prison. Back in April, 25-year-old Courtney Bailey was sentenced to probation.
The break-in is just one of more than a dozen burglaries Nine On Your Side first told you about in the Foothills last year. One year later, neighbors say a few things have changed.
"They just come, they hit you, and they're gone," Gilbert Greer, whose home just down the street has been hit five times in the last 1.5 years, said. The last break-in, he says, happened five months ago.
"That's very recent and I lost a very valuable work trailer which the insurance company only partially covered. So, we lost a lot of money in that particular one," Greer continued.
According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, since April, there have been four thefts and one assault in the area.
Since the streak, area residents have organized a neighborhood watch group, staying aggressive and keeping track of who goes in and out of their street.
"It's very scary and you know, you want to feel safe in your own home and with home invasions getting more and more ramped. We wish we had a little more protection up here," Foothills resident Debbie Ball told 9OYS.
"[We] just do what we can to be safe and keep everyone else safe too," Ball added.
