Man burned in house fire dies as result of injuries
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Mark Heidt, 49, has died as a result of burns and other injuries sustained during a house fire on March 3.
Deputy Courtney Rodriguez with the Pima County Sheriff's Department tells KGUN9 that deputies responded to a house fire in the 5500 block of South Meadowlark Avenue.
When deputies arrived, they heard a person yelling for help in the rear of the residence.
A deputy went into the garage to find something to open the door, while another deputy went to get fire personnel from Drexel Heights Fire Department, said Rodriguez.
Deputy Barnes inhaled a large amount of smoke while in the garage looking for a crowbar to open the door.
When the door was opened, Heidt was located near the back door with severe burns. He was transported to the trauma center for treatment. He died on March 11 as a result of injuries.
Deputy Barnes was transported to a local hospital for observation, said Rodriguez. He has been with the Sheriff's Department for fifteen years.
The cause of the fire has been ruled accidental by fire investigators, said Rodriguez.
