TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - An off-duty Tucson police officer was the victim of a road rage incident on Wednesday evening.
Deputy Tracy Suitt tells KGUN9 that on August 28, deputies responded to a collision at the intersection of Thornydale Road and Cortaro Farms Road.
When deputies arrived on scene, they learned the collision was the result of a road rage incident involving an off-duty TPD officer on his way home.
Detectives learned the incident began when the off-duty officer, driving an unmarked vehicle, merged onto Aviation Highway from 22nd Street and nearly collided with a pick-up truck, said Suitt.
The driver of the truck, a 38-year-old man, followed the officer through the downtown area and onto westbound I-10. He continued to follow closely behind the officer as they traveled westbound on I-10.
As the officer decreased his speed to exit I-10 at the Ina Road, the suspect deliberately rammed and pushed the officer’s vehicle, said Suitt.
The officer proceeded eastbound on Ina Road with the suspect still behind him. He turned northbound on Thornydale Road and called 911 to report the incident.
When the officer reached the intersection of Thornydale Road and Cortaro Farms Road, he arrived at a red light. The officer made a left turn on the red light to avoid a confrontation with the suspect.
When the suspect reached the intersection, he made a left turn and collided with a southbound passenger car driven by a woman.
The suspect and the woman were transported by ambulance to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Charges in this case are pending.
