NWS issues blowing dust advisory for parts of Southern Arizona

By Taylor Higgins. CREATED Mar 12, 2014

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Sierra Vista Fire officials say blowing dust is a major problem today.

Plus, the National Weather Service issued a blowing dust advisory earlier this morning.

The advisory was issued for Upper Santa Cruz River Valley/Altar Valley, Tucson Metro-Area, Upper San Pedro River Valley, Eastern Cochise County below 500 feet and the Chiricahua Mountains, Dragoon and Mule, Huachuca and Santa Rita mountains.

Sierra Vista, Benson, Willcox and Douglas might also be affected.

The blowing dust advisory will remain in affect until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Residents in these areas should expect poor visibility when blowing dust is high. It can create dangerous driving conditions and poor air quality.

KGUN 9 On Your Side will continue to monitor this weather alert. Stay with us for updates and join Erin Christiansen for your First Warning Weather tonight at 5, 6, and 10.
