Microburst in Green Valley sent tree into building

CREATED Jul. 15, 2013
GREEN VALLEY (KGUN9-TV) - Green Valley firefighters responded to an apartment complex after a tree fell on the building following a microburst storm Monday afternoon.

Bat. Chief Tom Louis with the Green Valley Fire Department tells KGUN9 that a tree pierced a quadplex apartment complex in the 200 block of Paseo Sarta, near La Canada and Esperanza just after 5:30 p.m.

The downed tree caused significant damage to the building, and it caused a gas line on the roof to break, Louis said.

Louis says the gas leak has been fixed, but the building was deemed unsafe, Louis said.

Louis also said the Green Valley Fire station sustained damage from the storm.

He told KGUN9 that the metal flashing on the west side of the station was damaged, along with a portion of the roof and multiple ventilation components.

KGUN 9 On Your Side sent a crew to the scene earlier. We will have more on the storm damage in Green Valley tonight at 10:00 p.m. Stay with us.
