MESA, Ariz. (AP) - A Mesa police car was recovered after it was stolen while officers responded to a call about a noisy party at an apartment complex.
Police Sgt. Tony Landato says two officers were at a nearby ambulance checking on a teen-ager being treated for inebriation early Sunday morning when a teen-ager got in the car and drive off.
One of the officers tried unsuccessfully to pull the boy from the car but let go when it accelerated. Before leaving the scene, the stolen car hit a parked police car and the ambulance.
According to Landato, officers used GPS to locate the police car, finding it in a park a half-mile away.
Landato says a 15-year-old boy found hiding in nearby bushes was arrested on charges that include theft of a vehicle.
