Police: Man killed in motocycle collision not wearing helmet
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - John Howard, 63, has been identified as the man killed in a motorcycle collision on Sunday night.
Sgt. Chris Widmer with Tucson police tells KGUN9 that officers responded to report of a vehicle
collision involving a motorcycle in the area of South Alvernon Way and East Juarez Street.
When officers arrived on scene, they located a motorcyclist with life-threatening injuries, said Widmer. He was transported to a local area hospital and was later pronounced deceased .
The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision was not injured, said Widmer.
Detectives determined that a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am exited a private drive onto northbound Alvernon Way then pulled into the left turn lane at Juarez Street.
A 2006 Honda FXX motorcycle was traveling southbound in the center lane of Alvernon Way. The Pontiac made a u-turn in front of the motorcycle and the collision occurred.
The operator of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet, said Widmer.
The driver of the Pontiac, a 16-year-old female, was charged with one count of causing serious injury or death by a moving violation, a misdemeanor offense.
