Man arrested, charged for lighting several brush fires

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Derek Jones, 33, has been arrested and charged after lighting several brush fires.
Deputy Tracy Suitt with the Pima County Sheriff's Department tells KGUN9 that on February 23, deputies responded to multiple brush fires near Alvernon Way and Valencia Road.
The Air Unit was the first to arrive and located a suspect running away from the fire, said Suitt.
The suspect was observed lighting several additional fires while running from the area, which is described as a water retention basin.
The Sheriff's Department Air Unit directed responding deputies to the location of the suspect, said Suitt.
After a short foot chase the suspect, Jones, was taken into custody.
Upon further investigation, Jones being arrested and booked on nine counts each of arson of property and burning of wild lands.
The Mental Health Support Team is also involved in the follow-up investigation, said Suitt.
