TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The genre is classical guitar and Grace Sheppard is one of the best in the world.
"She's the second American and the first American women or girl to win the 14 and under division," says Tom Patterson, a music teacher at the University of Arizona.
In June, Grace plucked her way to the top in the youth division at the Guitar Foundation Competition in Louisville, Ky.
"I was really happy to have all the work pay off but I have to keep going," says Sheppard.
It all started when Grace's mom handed the guitar over at age six.
"It came about because I have triplets and they were toddlers at that time and I wanted Grace and I to have some bonding experience on a regular basis," says Elizabeth Sheppard, Grace's mother.
Grace is a player in the community as well. She shares her gift with the elderly and for kids with Autism.
"I'm just so to know that it gives her such joy to play and to play for people," says Elizabeth Sheppard.
