TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A couple of bold burglars walk into Alvernon Optical with a plan.
They pretend to look at a display case and then smash it with a hammer and take off running, taking upwards of $1,000 worth of frames.
And Tucson Police confirms this shoplifting incident last week is one of four incidents at this location alone.
The other locations have also seen break-ins and shoplifting events, where thousands of dollars of merchandise is taken.
Stacia Decker, vice president of retail at Alvernon Optical says they're just fed up.
"This year we've had far more than we have had any other year in the past," she said.
That past spans 52 years and Decker says usually they see one big incident a year. Having six in one year is unheard of, and they're worried.
"It scares us," she said. "This last event on October 1, it's frightening, it upsets all of us, it makes our employees as well as us feel unsafe."
Decker says they've installed every security measure they can think of, iron bars, rolling shutters, cameras at every location. But the criminals don't care.
"Now they're getting more aggressive it seems," says Decker. "They know it's not easy at night anymore, so they're getting more aggressive during the day. And that's very scary."
Decker said that one of the men in the most recent incident on October 1 had a tattoo of a pair of scissors on his left forearm.
