Lightning strikes eastside apartment
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson Fire responded to an apartment Tuesday on the eastside.
Capt. Barrett Baker with TFD tells KGUN9 that crews responded to the 5400 block of east 30th Street just before 4 p.m. Tuesday after reports of a palm tree on fire.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the tree fire, but then noticed that the apartment was also struck by lightning.
The man living in the apartment was knocked over by the force of the strike. The family was able to get out unharmed.
Firefighters made sure there was no active fire from the strike. The residents will be allowed back into the apartment after briefly being evacuated.
There were no injuries to firefighters and Red Cross was not needed.
