Judge denies Horne's bid to halt campaign investigation
PHOENIX (AP) - A judge is refusing to grant Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne a temporary restraining order to keep the Maricopa County Attorney's Office from investigating allegations of campaign mismanagement.
Judge Mark Brain of Maricopa County Superior Court issued his order Tuesday, rejecting Horne's request that was based on Horne's claim that Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery is biased against Horne.
The investigation reportedly deals with claims by a former campaign staffer who says she was instructed to work on campaign-related work on state-paid time.
Horne asked that a different agency handle the investigation.
Another Superior Court judge is considering whether to block a separate but related investigation by the state's campaign-finance commission.
