"It's just a nuisance." Mobile home Park without water every Saturday
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Imagine not having running water to wash clothes, do dishes or take a shower. Now what if that happened every week for months.
"It's just a nuisance," says Myles Zimmerman, a resident at Rincon Country Mobile Home Park.
The park is a senior's community. Zimmerman says every weekend for the last 18 weeks, his water shuts off for hours.
"You know, once is an inconvenience but to have it every Saturday," he said. "It just gets you know, when is this going to end?"
Myles also had a stroke two years ago, which makes it hard for him to get around.
"I have a medical condition so it's just an added burden that's all," he said. "And it's been very frustrating."
He says the park told him the project would be done by October, but still no water. He also said he sees the fire hydrants spill water into the street while he has none.
The General Manager of the complex, Sam Harrell says the 40-year-old park kept experiencing leaks.
"Every time one happened, the entire park went down," he said.
Harrell says in September, they began replacing all the water shut off valves, so in the future, a leak won't affect the entire 560-home park. And he says they're actually ahead of schedule and should be finished by the end of the month.
He also said if they don't run the hydrants, the pressure will build meaning someone's home could flood.
Harrell says he knows it's an inconvenience.
"But we have to do this," he said. "This is not something that we can avoid."
He also said he puts updates in the park's newsletters and on the website so the residents know exactly what's happening with the project and how long the water will be shut off.
He says they only have to replace 12 more valves out of 40 and now the weekly shut off only affects the south end of the park.
9OYS also spoke with Tucson Water who said the city is not involved in this project because it is all private plumbing, but that's it not unusual for a project in a park this size to take as long as it has.
