'It makes me sick'; High school reeling after coach's arrest for child porn

CREATED Sep. 27, 2013

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A beloved coach is fresh out of jail and soon to be, out of a job.

9OYS has new details in the investigation into the slew of child porn charges against high school swim coach Bruce Rock.

"Are you willing to follow those conditions?" asked the judge Friday morning.

"Yes, I am," said Bruce Rock.

Those were his only words, after hearing a lengthy list of commands in Pima County court.

"No alcoholic beverages," listed the judge.  "You are not to use the internet."

And perhaps most importantly, she ordered Rock have no contact with any minors, including those whom he coaches day after day at Mountain View High School.

"It makes me sick," said one girl.

Students say Rock, employed with the district since 2008, was well liked.

"He was normal," said one boy.  "I mean, he seemed like a genuinely cool guy."

A 'cool guy' charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, accused of sharing child porn on social media.

"I guess it kind of freaks me out," one girl told us.

TPD says Rock has a lot of connections in the youth swim world.

Police say Rock also owns and operates the Pima Aquatics Club which rents pool time here at Marana High School.

9OYS spoke with administrators in the Marana Unified School District.

They provided us with this letter, sent home to parents, promising they take Rock's arrest "...extremely seriously...", adding "...there is no indication that the charges... involve an MUSD student."

Still parents say the allegations alone are, "Upsetting, yeah," said Mountain View parent Jill Goodin. "Always, you wonder what's going on.  You never know, in other people's lives."

Now that they've gotten a glimpse, many here say it will be hard to forget.

Rock was released to pretrial services this morning.

He will be back in court next month.

9OYS spoke to several kids and parents who know him and swim with him.

They were all too upset to go on camera.
