Insurer to renew canceled health plans in Arizona
PHOENIX (AP) - One insurer in Arizona says it will renew health insurance policies for customers whose plans were canceled under the federal government's health care overhaul.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona will mail letters to about 55,000 customers, informing them that their policies will extend through December 2014. Customers can also choose a new plan that meets the new federal standards.
Blue Cross says some customers may see rate increases, but others will have their existing rates locked in.
Company officials tell The Arizona Republic they've gotten a lot of questions and extending the policies seemed to be the simplest and most effective way to continue coverage.
Nationwide, millions of Americans who buy their own insurance have gotten cancellation notices because their plans don't meet the requirements of President Barack Obama's health law.
