HUD awards more than $400k to Tucson group
PHOENIX (AP) - The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development says it has awarded more than $415,000 to two fair housing initiatives in the Tucson area aimed at helping reduce discrimination.
HUD says the funding is part of $38.3 million awarded to 95 other similar organizations in 38 states.
The $415,116 in grant money will go to the Southwest Fair Housing Council in Tucson to support initiatives aimed at enforcing the Fair Housing Act across the state, including assisting with investigations and resolutions of complaints about discrimination. The group says the money will also be used for education and outreach purposes.
HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan says the grants enable community groups across the country to help individuals and families who are denied equal access to housing.
