Game and Fish offers reward in illegal killing of javelina
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Arizona Game and Fish Department is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in connection with a javelina that died of apparent arrow wounds.
Mark Hart with Arizona Game and Fish says the javelina was found around 7:30 a.m. Saturday near Camino Del Cerro and Placita Del Monte.
Javelina's killed in urban environments are typically shot because they are causing a nuisance, said Hart.
Game and Fish investigators believe this may be the situation in this case, since there is no current open hunting season for javelina. It also appears that the javelina was shot with field tips, which are typically used for archery target practice, and not hunting.
Individuals with information about the case are urged to call Operation Game Thief at (800) 352-0700, 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week, anonymously if need be.
