Funeral today for federal judge Marquez
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Services are set in Tucson for retired U.S. District Court Judge Alfredo C. Marquez, who died Aug. 27 at age 92.
A memorial service for Marquez is set for noon today at the Chapel at Evergreen on Oracle Road.
Marquez was appointed as a federal judge by President Jimmy Carter and confirmed by the Senate in 1980. He assumed senior status in 1991.
Marquez was born in Winkelman, Arizona, in 1922 and served as a Navy pilot in World War II. After the war he earned undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Arizona. He then served as an assistant Arizona attorney general, as a Pima County and Tucson prosecutor and in private practice.
Immediate survivors include a son, three daughters and a step-daughter.
