TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Mary Nunn rubs it where it hurts, puts it under her tongue, and says a little tube is what keeps her going.
"I have a congenital condition, obviously I won't ever get better. It will get worse or worse."
She can't use her thumbs or even sit upright, and says sometimes, her pain is worse than labor.
"My goal in the day is to never let it get that bad, which medical marijuana allows me to do."
But she's not looking for a high.
In order to find marijuana that fits her needs, she has to drive almost an hour to Desert Bloom Re-Leaf Center
for a strain of marijuana called Harlequin.
"This is the only [dispensary] in town that has a CBD strain that's powerful enough to make a difference with me."
CBD is the component in marijuana that is said to specifically relieve pain.
It's the THC that gets you high.
Harlequin has about 6% THC and 9% CBD, compared to a normal strain that has about 20% THC and less than 1% CBD.
It's the kind of marijuana parents with sick children say they want for their kids; the kind that doesn't impair them.
It's rare to find, but it's right here in Tucson.
And that relief Mary gets, she says, is much better than any kind of high.
