Flagstaff solicits comment on wildlife feeding ban

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) - Residents of Flagstaff are being asked to weigh in on whether to ban the feeding of deer and other animals that wander into the city.

A public meeting is scheduled for Monday evening at the Arizona Game and Fish Department office in Flagstaff.

The mayor has said that a neighborhood association complained about a resident leaving out food for elk and deer on his property.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports that the ban wouldn't keep residents from feeding birds and squirrels.

According to the newspaper, the original draft of the ordinance would subject residents who violate the ban to jail time after the fourth offense.
