Feds grant nearly $7M to fix Arizona schools

CREATED Aug. 29, 2013

GANADO, Ariz. (AP) - Two school districts on the Navajo Nation will receive nearly $7 million to repair and upgrade schools under a federal grant program.

The cash aid announced Wednesday by U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan is part of $20 million in grants awarded to districts in Arizona and five other states.

The Ganado Unified School District gets more than $1 million for its elementary, middle and high schools. The five-school Red Mesa Unified School District will receive $6.8 million. Both districts are in Apache County.

The money comes from a federal grant program that helps districts on Indian reservations, military bases or other federal lands repair and modernize facilities.
