Dog alerts family to house fire

CREATED Oct. 6, 2013

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A dog alerted its owners to a garage fire at their home early Sunday morning.

Capt. Barrett Baker with Tucson Fire tells KGUN9 the garage fire happened in the 10500 block of East Dusky Willow Drive at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.

Reilly, the couple's dog, alerted them to the fire, allowing them to get out of the home safely.

The first TFD crew that arrived on scene found the garage fully involved in fire with multiple cars on fire as well.

The fire spread to the attic of the home, and crews had to cut two holes in the roof to allow smoke to escape.

It took eight units and 21 firefighters to control the fire in 17 minutes.

There were no injuries to the homeowners, their dog Reilly, or firefighters.

The family is staying at another location until repairs can be made and did not need assistance from the Red Cross.

Three cars were destroyed in the fire and the garage and other areas of the home had considerable smoke and fire damage as well.

The cause is still under investigation.
