TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Deer Head fire in the Rincon Mountains of Saguaro National Park has spread, reaching 320 acres.
Dry conditions will likely allow the fire to grow larger throughout the week. Park officials continue to monitor the blaze, and crews are reinforcing fire lines to create a buffer of burned fuel near the fire line.
The lightning-ignited fire was spotted Thursday morning. Keep an eye on KGUN9 for further developments.
The fire is burning at an elevation of 7,500 feet. The Heartbreak Ridge Trail is near the blaze, and vegetation in the area includes ponderosa pine, oak and brush. Part of the area the fire is burning was scheduled for prescribed burns.
