Three children taken to hospital after swift water rescue
PICTURE ROCKS, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Three children were taken to the hospital Thursday after they were rescued with their mother from a flooded wash.
Deputy Jesus Banuelos with the Pima County Sheriff's Department tells KGUN9 that the rescue happened near Manville and Sandario in the Brawley Wash Thursday afternoon.
Chief Brett Lane with the Picture Rocks Fire Department says the three children were taken to the hospital for further evaluation but are expected to be OK. The mother was worried the children might have hypothermia so they were taken by ambulance to the hospital.
The mother was not injured.
Picture Rocks Fire crews were called there after the mother tried to drive her pickup truck across the wash.
A special rescue team went in and rescued each person one at a time.
This is close to the location where a woman was swept away in her car in the summer of 2012 and ultimately died.
Lane says Thursday's rescue was about 300 yards from that incident last year.
