TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A man intentionally set fire to his apartment Saturday, before he jumped out of a second story window to escape authorities, according to Tucson Police.

Sgt. Pete Dugan with TPD tells KGUN9 that police are investigating a fire at 8665 E. Speedway Blvd that happened Saturday morning. Police have charged 36-year-old Israel Salazar with two felony counts in the investigation.

Dugan says Salazar set fire to his apartment, and then ran and went into another apartment of someone that he did not know.

When Tucson Fire crews arrived on scene, they tried to find Salazar, and when they approached the apartment he was in, he jumped from a second story window, according to Dugan.

Police then took him into custody.

The fire did spread to several other units.

Dugan says Salazar was charged with two felony counts. One for arson of an occupied structure and one for criminal damage over $10,000. He was booked into Pima County Jail.
