Authorities identify dead climber found on Mt. Lemmon
MOUNT LEMMON, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Search and rescue crews identified the man found dead on Mount Lemmon Wednesday.
Deputy Courtney Rodriguez with the Pima County Sheriff's Department tells KGUN9 that 65-year-old David Webster was found dead near milepost 15.
Rodriguez says Webster was seen dangling from a rock. When deputies arrived they were not immediately able to get close enough to assess his medical condition.
Rural/Metro Fire crews, along with Mt. Lemmon Fire and Sheriff's deputies responded and hiked to the man's location where they determined he was dead.
Deputy Tracy Suitt with PCSD says another climber initially found the man and called 911just before 1 p.m. Cell service was spotty so it took some time before he could contact authorities.
Suitt says the man's body was difficult to access, and crews believe they recovered him within an hour of his death.
Suitt says the man is an avid climber and well known in the community.
No word yet on what caused the death.
