Buy this! Not this!

Buy this! Not this!

By Corinne Hautala. CREATED Dec 10, 2013

When I first found out I was pregnant I got a lot of advice from people on what not to buy for the baby.  As time passed, though, I forgot a lot those recommendations.

Now that I’m just weeks away from meeting my little man it is time to make sure I have everything that he needs and there’s no need to buy something that will never be used.

According to a study by TheBump.com, the average mom spent $4,294 from pregnancy through the baby's first year, 45 percent of which was spent before the baby was even born.

Here’s a list of unnecessary baby items compiled by Elena Mauer, an editor at TheBump.com.

  • Baby wipe warmer
  • Bassinet
  • Baby bedding: comforter & bumper pad
  • Baby food makers
  • Fancy baby monitors
  • Diaper pails
  • Designer clothes & shoes

Here’s the list of must have items

  • Teething toys
  • Car seat & stroller
  • A swing
  • Diaper bag
  • Breast pump
  • High chair
  • Swaddle blankets
