Burglar caught in the act; arrested without incident

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson Police have arrested a man as he was ransacking an apartment at a retirement center.

Tucson Police tell KGUN9 the incident took place on August 10 around 4 p.m. in the 4900 block of South Liberty Road.

Officers were flagged down by several residents and were told that a smoke alarm was going off.

As officers were assisting, they were flagged down by another resident who said there was someone inside her apartment.

The woman reported that as she entered her front door, she saw a large rock on the living room floor and heard noises from her bedroom, police said.  She left her bedroom door open when she left and when she returned the door was shut and locked.
 
As officers entered the apartment, they heard noises from the bedroom and ordered the person inside to come out.

The man, later identified as 25-year old Nathan Champagne, exited the room and was taken into custody without incident.

Champagne was arrested for one count of 1st degree trespassing.
