TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Four months after a fire broke out in the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, the community is praying a night of music can help with the rebuilding process.
This Saturday night there is a Fire Benefit Concert for St. Demetrios at the Tucson Fox Theatre.
Normally, the annual Tucson Greek Festival is this weekend, but the late May fire that closed the church also forced the cancellation of the celebration of Greek food and culture.
"Not being able to do our Greek festival this year was a huge financial blow to the community and this concert hopefully will help make up a little bit of it," Father Earl Cantos said. "So it is really important that it does well both emotionally for us as well as financially for us."
The church could not find the kitchen space needed for three months of baking and preparing the food for the festival, Cantos said.
Bill Cantos, the brother of the church's leader, is one of the musicians taking the stage.
"He is a world known jazz pianist and plays with many well known people," Cantos said. "He called me up as soon as the fire happened and said let's do a concert, I'll come and lets help the church."
Tickets are still available for Saturday's concert. Doors open at 6pm and the concert starts at 7 pm.
Valet parking is free for everyone because of a donation, Cantos said.
