At end of day, still delays on healthcare website

CREATED Oct. 1, 2013

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -  It's the website frustrating many in our country today: healthcare.gov.

It's causing big enough problems for even the President to mention it, comparing the website's glitches to the glitches in Apple's new operating system.

"I don't remember anybody suggesting Apple should stop selling iPhone or iPad," the President said.

While some uninsured may have been disappointed, what about the people meant to help?

St. Elizabeth's is one of many "navigators" here in Tucson, which are organizations that provide free advice to those shopping in the exchange.

"We did anticipate that there might be a few glitches in the computer systems," St. Elizabeth's Jane Bakos told Nine On Your Side.

No surprise here.

They said they got about 20 calls, not including people who came directly in; people hoping to sign up for a plan that were stopped short by a "wait" screen.

St. Elizabeth's staff scheduled appointments later in the week, telling their customers things may be easier in a couple of days.

Across town, in the home of University of Arizona Health Plans, a local insurance company offering services in the exchange, employees received similar frustrated calls.

"There have been a lot of issues with people getting through on healthcare.gov and trying to be able to actually get so that they can look and shop and enroll," U of A Health Plan's Karen Leonard told us.

Again, they expected the delays.

They said they've set up their website so you can start looking at their plans without going on the exchange; however, they note eventually you will be taken to healthcare.gov to input some information.

It took us about 25 minutes to finally get the "go ahead" on healthcare.gov, but the consensus seems to be, wait it out.

You do have 181 days to sign up, after all.

Need help navigating through the system? Call one of the navigators!
