Victim recovering, deputies searching for potential people of interest
CHIRICAHUA NATIONAL MONUMENT, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - In August, 59-year-old Karen Gonzales was found unconscious in a picnic area restroom with serious head injuries.
Today, the Cochise County Sheriff's Office released photographs of persons(s) of interest who were seen in the area around the time the assault of Karen took place.
Gonzales, a National Park Service employee, had being assaulted in the public restrooms near the Faraway Ranch Trailhead on the Chiricahua National Monument.
Joe Gonzales has been by his mother's side since tragedy struck their family last week.
"It's amazing," Joe told 9OYS in an exclusive interview. "It's the first little bit of joy I've had in a good while."
Karen's family says at first she only said, "yes" and "no," or would stick to a simple shake of the head.
