Arizona man faces charges in ambulance theft case

CREATED Aug. 12, 2013

CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) - A man accused of stealing an ambulance outside the Chandler Police Department after his release from custody on a misdemeanor citation is now facing several charges.
Court documents show 33-year-old Cesar Garcia of Guadalupe is being charged with aggravated DUI, driving on a revoked license, theft, resisting arrest and aggravated assault of an officer and a health care worker.
Police spokesman Joe Favazzo says Garcia drove the stolen emergency vehicle to his home after he was released Sunday on a misdemeanor charge of having an open container.
He was arrested a short time later after a scuffle with officers.
Court documents say Garcia had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech at the time of his arrest.
A preliminary hearing for Garcia has been scheduled Aug. 22. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
