Arizona jobless rate rises to 7 percent in July
PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona's unemployment rate rose to 7 percent in July, up from 6.9 percent the month before.
State economists said Friday that by comparison, Arizona's jobless rate was 8.1 percent a year ago.
The national unemployment rate also increased one-tenth of a percentage point to 6.2 percent in July.
According to state economists, six of the 11 major sectors added jobs and five reported losses over the month.
Arizona added 59,400 nonfarm jobs in July. Losses were primarily in government, which shed 10,600 jobs.
Trade, transportation and utilities added 2,600 jobs last month while professional and business services added 1,500 jobs.
