Arizona job market making slow recover

CREATED Aug. 3, 2013

PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona's job market appears to be on a slow path to recovery.

Economist Kathleen Lee with the Greater Phoenix Economic Council tells television station KTVK that it's going to take two to three years to fully recover.

Arizona's unemployment rate sits at 8 percent, which is just above the national average of 7.4 percent.

Lee says industries that include administrative work, health care, tourism, hospitality and construction have been hiring.

In the past three years, she says Arizona has recovered 17 percent of the construction jobs lost since the recession five years ago.

Lee says there's growth in the Phoenix region, and Arizona is considered one of the top growth markets in the country. She says there's optimism that the state will come out ahead of other regions.
