Another house of horrors? Tucson couple facing new charges in Pinal County
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -If you thought it was bad before, it's gotten a whole lot worse. 9OYS has learned Sophia and Fernando Richter, the couple accused of holding Sophia's daughters in dungeon like conditions for years are now facing more child abuse charges out of Pinal County.
Pima County Justice Court Records outline at least two new child abuse charges against the couple, but those documents really just the beginning.
The charges Sophia and Fernando Richter are facing have more than doubled, now up to 44 between them, after Pinal County filed its charges.
Pima County Jail Records confirm Fernando is being charged with sexual abuse and molestation of a child. Both of those are new charges out of Pinal County. Those sex crimes were believed to be committed inside a home in Catalina.
TPD detectives confirmed to 9OYS that they did conduct their own investigation there, alongside Pinal County officials. TPD handed over charges to the prosecutor's office there.
9OYS reached out to the Pinal County Attorney's Office, but they are not commenting on the case at this time. Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles emailed 9OYS a statement that in part read: "Once able, my office will certainly provide further details related to this case. Fernando and Sophia Richter are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty."
Both are still in jail. Fernando is due back in court Tuesday morning for assaulting a correctional officer. And the couple is due back in court in Pinal County a few days later on January 30th.
