Almost 50,000 TUSD students back in school

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Thursday morning, about 49,000 kids were on their way back to school according to Tucson Unified School District.

The first day of school filled kids with everything from excitement to nervousness as students were coming back from their summer vacation.

"I love school and I can't wait to meet my new friends and teachers," said Jazmyn Percy who will be starting fourth grade at Booth-Fickett Math and Science Magnet School.

Other students were not happy to be back in classrooms. Some even had some new-school jitters.

"Exciting and scary because I am going to middle school," said Abbie Lopez who is going into the sixth grade at Booth-Fickett

Some parents were even sad their kids were back at school already. However, the students did have their full 9 week break. And what did they do with that time?

"I had a lot of fun," said Lopez..

"I like to stay home and sleep all day," said Percy.

With school starting, students better kick those lazy habits and prepare for the school year.
