TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Police are investigating an overnight homicide that left a 60-year-old man dead.
Sgt. Maria Hawke with Tucson Police tells KGUN9 that James Russell Smith died on scene at an apartment complex in the 2400 block of North Palo Verde.
Hawke says officers responded there at 3:47 a.m. to conduct a welfare check on a man who was lying on the ground.
When officers arrived, they found Smith suffering from obvious signs of trauma, said Hawke.
Next of kin have been notified.
Detectives learned that a citizen at the complex heard a commotion occurring outside of his apartment. When the person looked out to see what was happening, he saw Smith lying on the sidewalk and called 911, said Hawke.
Anyone with information is urged to contact 911 or 88-CRIME.
