School security guard arrested for kissing a student

CREATED Nov. 14, 2013

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV)- Pima County Sheriff's deputies arrested a Cienega High School security guard last Friday for having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Sheriffs deputies tell us rumors of alleged misconduct between the 15-year-old student and 71-year-old security officer had been circulating around Cienega High for about three months.

When Pima County Sheriffs responded to this report, they learned 71-year-old Eric Oswald had kissed a 15-year-old girl multiple times.

It wasn't until the second time school officials questioned the student that she admitted to the allegations.

Once the investigation continued, they discovered Oswald and the student had developed this relationship over a period of several months. This involved kissing when the girl was 14 and 15-years-old, according to Deputy Tracy Suitt.

Sheriffs arrested Oswald for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The Vail School District was very cooperative and helpful throughout this investigation, deputies said.

Vail School District Superintendent Calvin Baker told Nine On Your Side, "When there's an allegation that one of our staff members has broken that almost sacred trust, we take that very, very seriously and we take it personally."

Baker said Oswald has been with them since 2006, and has close ties with the district.

"As soon as we became aware of the allegation, we contacted law enforcement and we also immediately removed the individual from contact with students," Baker said.

Oswad resigned on Tuesday.

Deputies tell us Oswald is not a convicted sex offender, and is currently facing misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The above picture of Oswald was taken in 1994, for an unrelated incident.
