TUCSON(KGUN9-TV)- Tucson Wildlife Center found 32 bats injured from an apparent beating, under the Benson Highway bridge Monday.
The organization received a call from a jogger, who found the animals. They took the bats to the center, where 20 of them died on arrival.
Another 11 had to be euthanized because of broken bones and internal injuries. One of the bats is still alive.
"The bats were roosting in a place that was too high to reach with a blunt instrument. So, they must have been flying about and literally struck in flight," Arizona Game and Fish spokesperson Mark Hart said.
There is a $1000 reward for information leading to an arrest of whomever is responsible.
