TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A teenager is dead after a crash on the southside Saturday morning.
Sgt. Chris Widmer with the Tucson Police Department tells KGUN9 that a car crashed near Valencia Road and Santa Clara Avenue just before 4:00 a.m. Saturday.
Once on scene, officers found the vehicle overturned.
Five people were in the car at the time of the crash, among them was 19-year-old Francisco Yanez, who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Widmer.
The driver of the car, a 20-year-old man, and one of the passengers, an 18-year-old man were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, Widmer said.
Two other passengers, another 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were transported to the hospital with only minor injuries.
During the investigation into the cause of the crash, traffic detectives learned that the driver of the car hit the median curb on Valencia Road and lost control of the car, according to Widmer.
The car rolled over the median and into the eastbound lanes of traffic.
Yanez was thrown from the car. The car eventually came to a stop on top of Yanez, Widmer said.
Detectives determined that alcohol and or drugs were a factor in the crash, according to Widmer.
No one in the car was wearing a seatbelt, Widmer said.
