Police: Man arrested after failed traffic stop
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Police have arrested a man after a pursuit through Tucson's west side on early Tuesday morning.
Sgt. Myron Holubiak tells KGUN9 that around 3 a.m., an officer attempted to stop a red sedan for a civil traffic violation near Oracle and Roger.
The vehicle failed to stop and fled from the officer. Police called in a helicopter t to follow the suspect vehicle.
The vehicle began heading north and officers asked the Pima County Sheriff's Department for assistance.
Deputies with PCSD were able to spike to the car's tires on Camino de Oeste, Holubiak said.
The vehicle headed back to his neighborhood north of Grant and Silverbell. Police were waiting for him after using his license plate to find his address.
By the time he reached the cul-de-sac, witnesses say his tires were completely shredded and he was driving on his rims.
The suspect's car struck a police car twice before officers were able to box him in. He surrendered without incident, Holubiak said.
Police are investigating if the man was possibly under the influence.
Charges in this cases are pending, Holubiak said.
