TOHONO OODHAM (KGUN9-TV) - A Pima County Sheriff's Deputy was involved in an accident Monday night on State Route 86.

Deputy Tracy Suitt with PCSD tells KGUN9 that Deputy John Weeks was passing vehicles when a vehicle in front made a sudden u-turn.

Deputy Weeks was unable to avoid a collision, says Suitt.

The deputy struck the vehicle on the driver's side.

Five of the six people in the car were sent to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Two were airlifted because of the remote location.

The deputy was not hurt because he was wearing his seatbelt and the airbag deployed.

Tohono O'odham Police is investigating the incident.
