TFD: "Castle" fire determined to be human caused
TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Tucson Fire says the three-story house fire from July 15 was human caused.
Capt. Barrett Baker with TFD says the home, known as the "Castle" was fully engulfed at about 6:00 a.m., and firefighters had to fight the blaze defensively from the outside.
The house was located in the 800 block of W. Green Street, which is near I-10 and 22nd Street.
Crews on scene were worried that the house might collapse. Several 911 calls were made Monday morning to report black smoke coming from the west side of I-10.
Crews tried to surround the house from multiple sides to make sure the fire did not spread.
Several houses in the area were evacuated as a precaution.
The home was being remodeled at the time of the fire and it was not occupied.
Ten units and 23 firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in 28 minutes.
There were no injuries. The house was considered a total loss. There is no estimate yet on damages, but the investigation is ongoing.
