Remodel of fallen Hotshot's home overrun with community support

CREATED Jul. 12, 2013

PIMA COUNTY (KGUN9-TV) - As the nation continues to mourn the deaths of 19 'Hotshot' firefighters, support for their families is pouring in.

Case in point: fallen Hotshot Billy Warneke and his pregnant wife Roxanne were in the middle of remodeling their Marana-area house, when Billy was called to Yarnell Hill.

Now, dozens of local firefighters are picking up where he left off.

And since 9OYS first aired this story Monday, they say the response has been overwhelming with dozens of area businesses, contractors, even major chain stores, offering to pitch in.

"I think it's going to be a pretty special plan.  I'm excited, and I'm excited for Roxy, and I think it's going to be a great place to honor Bill," said project coordinator Capt. Dan Klement.

If you would like to help with the Warneke remodel, head to their website: www.warnekeproject.org.

They're off to a great start, already raising $15,000.
