Yarnell Hill Fire reaches 100 percent containment
PRESCOTT, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Crews reached 100 percent containment Wednesday on the deadly wildfire that claimed the lives of 19 firefighters.
All evacuations have been lifted for the Yarnell Hill Fire, which was caused by lightning on June 28.
The fire grew to almost 8,400 acres and burned more than 100 buildings and homes.
Many of the residents of Yarnell Hill returned home this week to destroyed homes.
The fire consumed the Granite Mountain Hotshots Crew on June 30, killing 19 of its members.
The 100 percent containment came on the same day that the first funerals took place for the fallen firefighters.
One of the members, Billy Warneke lived in Avra Valley, Ariz. His funeral took place Wednesday afternoon in Marana, after a procession took his remains from the Marana Airport to a mortuary.
